Ranunculus Make-A-Long Overview/kickoff class (knit) $95 for whole MAL, $50 class alone

$95 for whole MAL, $50 for this class

January 24, 10:30 am. All Saturday classes are advanced beginner, which means already knowing basic knowledge of the craft (casting on, knitting, and purling).

Sun Dragon Make-a-longs are a community event: near or far, we are enjoying the feeling of knowing others are knitting or crocheting the same thing or style! Our make-a-longs are no mystery, there are no required fees to participate, though this year we have a bundle that buys access into help times and videos, as well as extra entries into our givaways (yes we want to try some this year!). Regardless of if you buy in, you can participate near and far with your own yarn, or yarn from the shop. We are a community near and far that participates for the joy of challenge and camaraderie!

Our Make a Longs in 2026 are a spin on what we have previously offered. As before, you can participate from anywhere, and share progress in the Sun Dragon MAL Facebook page, tag us on social media (@sundragonartandfiber , #sundragonMAL, etc) or send us photos for our newsletter!

If you would like to buy into one of the Make A Longs (see schedule below), it is $95 per make-a-long, and here is what you get for that price:

  • 8 hours of help

    • virtual: 4 general Coach & Connects on zoom, usually the last Sunday of the month,

    • in shop: kickoff session and 3 Friday drop in help sessions at the shop related to the project

  • access to any extra help videos I make on the project (the number of these will vary depending on the make-a-long),

  • 10% off supplies for your project upon request (contact us for those purchases if not coming into the shop).

  • Extra entries into the giveaway (see below).

Other ways to participate regardless of purchase (no purchase necessary):

Make one of the patterns! You can do this on your own, with friends, or come to one of our sit-n-stitches. Please note anything entitled “sit-n-stitch” is a community event, and not instructional. You are nit limited to yarn from the shop, but bonus points for a purchase!

Post during the Make-a-long period on social media (Facebook or YouTube) and tag Sun Dragon in the post (@sundragonartandfiber), or hashtag #sundragonmal or #sundragonmal2026 or #sundragonmal(insert name of MAL)

Send us pictures of what you’re working on! I’d love to add them to my newsletter, and if I can add pages here share them here too. Email me here. You can also share posts on the Sun Dragon MAL page on Facebook.

Enter the Giveaways! I’m still building these, but there will be ways to enter more than once using all the methods above (tagging us in posts, sending us pictures, attending specific events, etc). Stay tuned for more info.

Topics for the 2026 Make-a-longs are a return to favorite classics!

In Quarter 1, January-March, we return to the Ranunculus by Midori Hirose. It’s been a staple on Ravelry since it was published in 2017, and there are over 34,ooo projects for it on the pattern website! It’s versatile and can be made over and over again with different thicknesses of yarn and different fiber content. I’ve got a whole bunch of videos on YouTube from the last time we did this as a make-a-long.

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ranunculus-3

Fees includes instruction only, we can help you pick out the perfect yarn! 10% off supplies for those who have bought into the MAL when requested at checkout.

Anyday Sweatshirt MAL Kickoff intro class (knit) $50

$50, October 4, 10:30 am. All Saturday classes are advanced beginner, which means already knowing basic knowledge of the craft (casting on, knitting, and purling).

Our Make a Longs in 2025 are a spin on what we have previously offered: MAL are free to participate, though instruction if wanted or needed comes with associated fees. One can participate from anywhere, and share progress in the Sun Dragon MAL Facebook page.

For locals, every MAL will have an optional intro class with a fee where we go over the project, prep participants and answer questions: paying for this class paves the way for reduced assistance throughout the make-a-long. We are adding in shop MAL-specific Sit n Stitch times: free to attend in the “Living Room”, though if assistance or questions arise that moves to the Teaching Room where fees apply: $10/hour if you attended the intro class, $15/hour if you did not; these fees are for any time shorter than an hour as well. This is a great way to keep going on you project while seeking assistance only if and when you need it!

The Anyday Sweatshirt by Ysolda Teague: it is a comfy, drop-shoulder style sweater knit seamlessly top-down with short row shaping and optional bust modifications. Written for DK or light worsted weight, it will look great with a solid or multicolor yarn.

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/anyday-sweatshirt

Fees includes instruction only, we can help you pick out the perfect yarn! 10% off supplies for those who attend the kickoff intro class when requested at checkout.

MAL schedule:

October 4, 10:30-12:30: Optional Intro Kickoff Class, $50. This class will go over the pattern and general structure of the sweater, as well as going over basic techniques used and answering questions. We may practice some of these techniques or swatch for gauge! Attending this class affords 10% off supplies and a reduced rate for help throughout the MAL.

Every other Wednesday in February and March are MAL Sit n Stitch sessions, 2-4. Free to attend in the Living Room, assistance and questions move to the teaching room: $10/hour (or fraction thereof) for intro attendees, $15/hour (or fraction thereof) for everyone else.

Laulu Shawl Follow-up (knit) $12/hour

The Laulu shawl is a great way to learn or practice lace and cables. it starts small, gets wider, and narrows again in construction, so you learn the skills over a small number of stitches. The size is very adaptable too, from a shawlette to a larger wrap depending on the number of repeats of the pattern.

Project classes in 2025 will include a Saturday main class, with optional followup session times if you need further assistance. The number of follow-up sessions will depend on the size of the project, all are $12/hour. You can always come to a Friday drop in help session for $12/hour if you have attended the initial class!

The Main class to get started is August 16, 10:30-12:30

If you did not come to the main class, help is still available for $20/hour during this time, please let us know you are coming.
